DATE:  Art Deco, c.1920

Most unusual antique brooch featuring an oval piece of china porcelain in a simple silver rub-over mount. This piece certainly has a story to tell, although since it can’t talk we’re going to have to use our imaginations… I can only presume that it’s been made from a larger china vessel/plate/vase/etc. that was broken but held enough significance to its owner that they had a piece (or pieces, who knows) forever immortalised as an article of jewellery. The fragment in question clearly depicts part of a flower, with petals and centre visible and from what we can see it was slightly stylised/abstract and must have been incredibly beautiful. It’s crafted in sterling silver and dates from the 1920s.
